By 2030, 100% of Upper Austria’s electricity and space heating energy consumption should be produced with renewable energy sources. To reach this goal, it is necessary to reduce the demand for space heating and electricity considerably. Lighthouse projects like the retirement and nursing home in Wels play an important role in this. Through visionary technologies, the standard of tomorrow is already shown today.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the retirement and nursing home Wels Vogelweide took place in June 2008, the home will prospectively be ready to move into in March 2010. All in all, it comprises 124 rooms and achieves an energy performance indicator of 7.4 kilowatt-hours per square meter and year. Originally, an energy per-formance indicator of 24 kWh/m²a was envisaged. Through the comprehensive project assistance of the O.Ö. Energiesparverband various measures and optimisations were put in place which resulted in the building reaching the passive building standard.
